Employee wellbeing programmes

We’re committed to supporting our people with their physical, mental, social and financial health.

Our employee wellbeing programmes and initiatives

At Zurich, we want employees who are healthy, happy and motivated in their work, because we believe a happy workforce is a productive workforce. We have a responsibility to intervene to support employees on their journey towards physical, mental, social and financial health and wellbeing.

Mental health

We know that many of our employees will be affected by poor mental health at some point in their lives and we have taken a number of steps to support them. More than 100 Zurich employees have trained as mental health first aiders, and nearly 400 have successfully passed mental health awareness training.

We have an employee assistance programme that offers free and confidential counselling, in addition to dedicated employee work-life/wellness resources, such as articles and self-assessments.

Physical health

We’ve introduced new benefits such as gym memberships through our flexible benefit offering, and free flu jabs to help our employees keep well. We offer yoga, pilates, running clubs and physiotherapy in a number of our offices.

We offer a number of flexible working patterns, e.g. agile working, part-time working, job sharing and compressed hours. Our employee assistance programme encourages employees to make healthy choices through diet and exercise recommendations.

Social health

We’ve introduced new benefits such as gym memberships through our flexible benefit offering, and free flu jabs to help our employees keep well. We offer yoga, pilates, running clubs and physiotherapy in a number of our offices. As well as providing flexible working opportunities to support opportunities, we have a number of support networks across our business.

One example is our cancer support groups.

Health and safety

We believe good health and safety management is an important part of being a responsible and sustainable company. This contributes to our business performance by reducing injuries and absences due to ill health.

In particular, we:

  • Protect the health and safety of our employees and other people in Zurich-occupied properties and buildings
  • Meet legal and regulatory health and safety requirements - striving to exceed them where possible
  • Regularly assess the health and safety risks arising from business activities, and use this as the basis to make continuous improvements
  • Provide appropriate health and safety training
  • Communicate health and safety concerns to our employees and take account of their views

As an insurance and risk management provider, we also share our expertise with our commercial customers around health and safety best practice, and are in regular dialogue with the Health and Safety Executive.
