Our apprenticeships in actuarial
Actuaries help us to understand how likely it is that our customers will need our support, and in making sure we have enough money set aside to be there for them when they do. Our actuarial apprenticeship programmes will help you learn how to analyse data, assess risks and create models to drive intelligent decision-making. You’ll work alongside student and qualified actuaries and use your numerical, team-working, communication and interpersonal skills while working on our products, pricing or reserving. Your role could involve pricing new or existing products, providing actuarial support for company-wide projects, financial risk management and modelling, or reserving and financial reporting.
As an actuarial apprentice, you’ll complete the Level 4 Actuarial Technician apprenticeship with BPP Professional Education. Zurich will cover the costs and give you time to study while you put your learning into practice as part of your role.
During your actuarial apprenticeship, you’ll also:
- Use actuarial tools to analyse data and calculate the probability and costs associated with certain events.
- Enhance your communication skills and your ability to plan, prioritise, analyse and understand the wider professional landscape.
- Day-to-day activities may include problem solving, building and coding models, creating and editing spreadsheets in Excel, analysing data and information and providing insights. (depending on what suits your strengths and needs of the team). You’ll also learn about mathematical concepts relating to insurance.
How long will my apprenticeship last?
The apprenticeship will typically take 27 months to complete. Once you complete your qualification, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to put your new qualification, skills and knowledge into practice as part of your role as a permanent member of the team.
