Getting to know Lauren
What do you do in your role?
I oversee how claims from across Europe are handled in the UK, helping ensure the right outcomes and consistent standards. I also lead Claims Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging activity.
How did you get into insurance?
My original plan was law. I worked as a Graduate Legal Executive while completing professional qualifications, then joined Zurich as a Commercial Casualty Claims Handler and progressed through senior handling, technical, customer-facing and governance roles.
What would you tell your university self?
Do not focus so narrowly on becoming a lawyer. Insurance is diverse, challenging and rewarding, with many opportunities and a strong work-life balance.
What unexpected opportunity stands out?
Travelling to India to train and work with a strategic supplier was unforgettable. It introduced me to a different working culture, talented people and the global nature of insurance.
What are you most proud of?
Receiving the CII Young Achiever of the Year Award, and continuing to progress, secure promotions and start an AI apprenticeship since becoming a parent to two young children.
What advice would you give students?
Keep an open mind, develop communication, problem-solving and organisational skills, and explore opportunities outside the path you originally planned.
