What do you do in your role?

I handle Energy and Construction claims for businesses around the world. My role involves investigating what happened, working with experts, understanding what is covered by the insurance policy, and supporting insureds through the claims process. Every claim is different, which makes the role both challenging and rewarding.

What's the most interesting part of working in claims?

The variety. One day I could be dealing with a tool theft claim in Peru worth a few hundred dollars, and the next reviewing tornado damage to a solar farm in the USA, potentially worth millions. No two days and no two claims are ever the same.

How did you get into insurance?

I joined Zurich through a Finance Summer Internship in 2018 before moving onto the business management graduate scheme in 2019. Rotations across Life Insurance, Underwriting, Process Improvement and Claims helped me discover what interested me most.

What surprised you most about claims?

I expected claims handling to be quite individual, but it is highly collaborative. Within my team, we regularly ask questions, share ideas, and support each other.

How has your degree helped?

Economics helped me understand how businesses, markets, and global events can affect organisations.

What advice would you give students?

Do not worry if you do not have a clear career plan. Technical knowledge can be learnt, but curiosity and a willingness to ask questions are the most important skills.
