We’ll pay your claim

Once we've completed the assessment of your claim and made a decision, we'll pay the proceeds of any valid claim to the account details we hold for you.

Frequently asked questions

If you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. Check out our range FAQ’s from claimants just like you.

We’ll generally need to obtain medical information to support your claim from your GP, consultant or treating medical professional and we’ll ask for your consent to do this.

To help gets things moving please send us copies of any medical reports, diagnostic test results, along with in or out-patient assessments etc. The quicker we can get this information, the faster we can assess your claim and pay your benefit.

If your existing GP doesn’t have a complete picture of your past medical history relevant to your diagnosis, then we may need to obtain this to fully assess your claim. If that happens we’ll let you know and explain how we’ll do that.

Timescales can vary, especially if we’re dependent on 3rd parties such as your GP or medical professional for information needed to assess your claim.

The more information we have upfront, the faster we can assess your claim, so making sure you provide as much detail as early on as possible, the better.

Top Tip - In our experience, GP surgeries tend to respond best to their patients. The more proactive you can be in chasing the return of medical evidence from your practice or consultant, the faster we can pay your claim.

No, you’ll need to maintain your regular premiums as normal, pending assessment of your claim and until we agree to pay it.

Yes -  when the sum assured is paid, we’ll stop providing cover and your policy will end.

If you pass away during the process of making a terminal illness claim, we'll continue to deal with your case and pay the proceeds of any valid claim to the person legally entitled to receive it.

This could be the executors of your estate or your trustees (if your policy is held in trust).

Your trustees will then distribute the proceeds to your beneficiaries in line with the instructions you provided as part of the trust arrangements.

Your policy only pays out the sum assured once and when the sum assured is paid, the policy will stop and cover will end.
