What are Sustainable ‘green’ repairs?

At Zurich, we’re working hard to incorporate sustainability into the heart of our business.

A lot of this hard work goes on behind-the-scenes, for example, reducing business miles and phasing out petrol and diesel company cars in favour of electric hybrid models.

At the same time, we’re working closely with our repairers to make sure that, where appropriate, they’re repairing vehicles using ‘green’ parts.

What are green parts? How does using green parts benefit you and the environment?

As part of our commitment to becoming more sustainable, you have the option to use recycled parts, known as “green parts”, for certain non-safety-related repairs, such as doors, mirrors, bumpers, and lights.

Green parts are genuine vehicle components that have been carefully removed from end-of-life vehicles during the dismantling and recycling process. Each part is thoroughly cleaned, quality checked, photographed, and graded, so you can be confident in what you’re getting.

By choosing to reuse these parts, you help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and support a more environmentally conscious approach to vehicle repair. Green parts are reliable, traceable to their original vehicles, and meet the standards set by the Vehicle Damage Repair Kitemark scheme. Not only is this a sustainable and affordable way to improve or repair your vehicle, but green parts are often available more quickly than brand-new ones.

If you’d like to use a green part, just let us know at the start of your claim.

James Nicholson, Zurich's Chief Claims Officer, said:

"By giving these car parts a second life, we help cut down on unnecessary waste that ends up in landfill. Using green parts allows us and our customers to make a more positive environmental choice while still delivering the high-quality repairs our customers expect.”
