Working in partnership with Trees for the Future

Trees for the Future partnership

Last year, Zurich Insurance proudly partnered with Trees for the Future, a remarkable organisation dedicated to more than just planting trees.

We donate to Trees to the Future every time a customer purchases a new Zurich Protection policy and so far, our collaboration has led to the planting of nearly half a million trees, contributing to the restoration of landscapes and the transformation of lives in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

Who are Trees for the Future?

By planting over 400 million trees globally and restoring more than 140,000 acres of land, Trees for the Future has helped thousands of families break the cycle of poverty while also combating climate change. The countries impacted by this initiative include Tanzania, Kenya, Mali, Uganda, and Senegal.

Since 1989, Trees for the Future has also been empowering farmers through sustainable agroforestry practices, focusing on the establishment of Forest Gardens. These gardens are a proven method to restore degraded lands, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities.

Trees for the Future has been training farmers in the Forest Garden Approach (FGA) for over a decade. The FGA uses agroforestry and sustainable farming practices to protect land, diversify crops, and optimise space. Farmers undergo training over a four-year period, during which Trees for the Future provides all the necessary seeds, tools, and materials. Through the FGA, farmers plant thousands of trees that protect and enrich the soil, making them more resilient to climate change-related weather patterns like drought and flooding. As soil health improves, farmers can grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, which in turn increases both income and food security.

What is Zurich doing to help?

Our commitment is providing training, resources, and continuous support to these communities, addressing both environmental and social challenges.

Since the start of our partnership, we are proud to have helped plant 489,740 trees (as of January 2025). Our collaborative efforts over the past year have demonstrated the true impact of collective action.

And we’ve not stopped there. Our partnership with Trees for the Future is continuing through 2025, with a shared goal of planting approximately another half a million trees.
