Changing trustees on a policy in trust? You’re in the right place.
If your policy is already in trust and you wish to add trustees to it or retire trustees from it, we’ve got a range of ways you can let us know, designed to fit you.
Please note that under Trust law, the total number of trustees cannot fall below two, and all trustees must be 18 or older.
A ‘retiring’ trustee is discharged from all their duties under the trust.
We know that it can sometimes be confusing when it comes to the different roles needed for a policy which is in trust, so we’ve noted these below.
It’s important to read these before completing our online form.
Settlor (or 'Donor' on an Absolute Trust)
The person(s) who puts assets into a trust (transferring legal ownership to the trustees) and appoints trustees to look after the trust.
Trustee
The person(s) who looks after the contents of the trust on behalf of the beneficiary(ies) - normally trustees are the settlor themselves, and at least one other person.
Beneficiary
The person(s) who can benefit from the trust.
If you still wish to make changes to the trustees on your policy, you can let us know using one of the following options.

Online
As a trust is a legal document, any changes you need to make must be done via a ‘deed’.
This provides an official record of the changes. You can use our simple form below to let us know about the changes required, which then allows us to prepare the relevant deed(s) for you.
Important:
Please note, this form can be used if you are only amending the trustees on your policy. It should not be used if you also wish to make changes to the beneficiaries on your policy. If you wish to make changes to the beneficiaries on your policy, please visit “Can I add or remove a trustee / beneficiary?” within the Trust-related FAQs on our website here, where you will find the relevant form to use for making changes to your beneficiaries.
