Keeping your money safe from fraudsters - fake Bonds and Investments

Zurich has been made aware that fraudsters have set up fake Zurich websites, and are using them, associated email addresses, telephone calls and social media, to try and deceive the public into “investing” in fake Zurich Investment Bonds or other types of fake Fixed Rate Investments. The same fraudsters have also produced fake documents described as the “Key Features of the Zurich Bond and Managed Investment Bond”. These fake Bonds may be described as ‘investment grade Bonds’, producing different fixed rates of return.

Such tactics are commonly used by fraudsters, and they will direct their victims to their fake website to try and con them into believing that the website and the associated investment are genuine.

  • These sites falsely claim to be Zurich, and may also use the name “Zurich Global Relationship Management"
  • These sites have no links whatsoever with Zurich, and Zurich is taking action and liaising with the authorities to get them shut down
  • The fraudsters may also use email addresses linked to these fake websites to contact the public
  • Please be aware the fraudsters may set up other fake websites and email addresses in addition to those noted, so please read the warning signs below.

Warning signs that an investment might be fake:

Zurich no longer offers new Investment Bonds, or any other type of Investment product, to the public, so any claim to the contrary is highly likely to be fraudulent.

Similarly, we do not employ Financial Advisers, so anyone claiming to be a Zurich representative and able to sell you an Investment is also likely to be a fraudster.

What can I do to protect myself?

  • If you are approached about a Bond, ISA, or other types of investment, it’s important to take your time, and do your own research
  • Don’t be pressured into agreeing to anything over the phone. A genuine financial services firm or financial adviser won’t mind giving you time to think. Remember: you can always hang up or press the delete button
  • If the investment offered is supposedly with or arranged by Zurich, please call us direct to check this on 0800 096 6233 (the number which can be found at the bottom of our website’s pages). Do not use any other number provided direct to you by whoever is offering or arranging the investment
  • If the investment is with any other company, contact that company directly, using the contact details provided on the company’s official website. Again, do not just use the details (including any website link) in the information provided to you by whoever is arranging the investment
  • Check out the firms involved on the website of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)*. The FCA has a ScamSmart page where you can check an investment or pension opportunity you’ve been offered to avoid scams: www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart

* The FCA is the conduct regulator for financial services firms and financial markets in the UK
