Zurich Environmental Emergency Response

For Environmental Impairment Liability policyholders

Going beyond just clean-up

Zurich Environmental Emergency Response (ZEER) programme is offered with all Zurich Environmental Impairment Liability policies and is free to enrol. To help our customers with both the physical and financial aspects of an environmental incident, Zurich developed the ZEER programme.

ZEER is a global offering that provides a 24/7 call centre that customers can use following any environmental incident, such as tanker incidents, cement spills, oil or chemical releases, milk spills, explosions, and fugitive atmospheric releases. The service helps reduce liability by using emergency response coordinators and dispatching specialised environmental contractors.

ZEER SpillCenter

ZEER in action

A diesel tanker crash released 7,500 gallons of fuel into storm drains, impacting a sensitive freshwater wetland, contaminating a lake, and harming local waterfowl. The situation escalated further when a fire caused a nearby overpass to collapse. This is what ZEER did to manage the incident:

  • ZEER deployed Emergency Response contractor & wildlife rescue teams within a few hours
  • 30+ waterfowl were rescued and recovered
  • A field protection strategy was implemented to clean-up fuel & prevent other waterfowl from coming into contact with fuel – this prevented damage of natural resources and biodiversity loss
  • ZEER saved approximately $750,000 and protected the reputation of the insured business

Important information

Reporting an incident through the online system does not constitute notification of a claim, nor does it confirm that the incident will be covered under your policy. Use of this service may incur a charge, which could form part of any subsequent claim. ZEER is designed to support incident reporting only and should not be used as a replacement for submitting a claim in line with the terms and conditions of your policy.
