Our community trust priorities
Every three years, we review our strategy and ask Zurich employees to vote on the social issues they want the Zurich Community Trust (ZCT) to support.
For the 2026 to 2029 period, employees chose health and mental health as priority areas.
These causes are supported by our ongoing commitment to sustainability, as well as diversity, inclusivity, and belonging.
Young Lives vs Cancer
We're proud to be working with Young Lives vs Cancer to support their ‘Homes from Home’ programme. This initiative provides free, safe accommodation for families whose children are receiving cancer treatment far from home.
With specialist hospitals across the UK, many families face long journeys – an average round trip of 80 miles1. This can lead to emotional, logistical, and financial challenges, with families often spending an extra £700 a month2. Many also feel isolated during this time.
The Homes from Home network now has 10 locations across the UK3. These homes help families feel more independent, bring a sense of normality, and provide shared spaces for peer support. This helps reduce isolation and boosts mental well-being.
Funding from Zurich Community Trust will help expand services to better meet the changing needs of families. Homes from Home offers:
- Direct support, like group social work, volunteer buddy drivers, ambulatory care volunteers and counselling
- Community partnerships, with activities like yoga, complementary therapies, welfare rights workshops, and childcare for siblings
- Local business support, by providing employment sessions, donated essentials and volunteer-led maintenance
Shout by Mental Health Innovations
We’re excited to be working with Mental Health Innovations (MHI).
MHI runs Shout, the UK’s first free, confidential, 24/7 crisis text service4. Shout uses digital tools, data analysis and clinical expertise to offer immediate mental health support. It’s designed for young people and vulnerable groups, especially those who cannot easily access traditional services.
The service supports people facing urgent issues like suicidal thoughts, anxiety, depression and loneliness. It’s especially helpful for young people – 59% of users are under 25 – and those from groups who face extra challenges5. This includes:
- People with long-term illnesses
- Neurodivergent individuals
- LGBTQ+ members
- Young people from low-income families
By offering immediate crisis support, Shout reduces pressure on the NHS and cuts down waiting times for traditional mental health services5.
GoodGym
GoodGym is a community of people who get fit by doing good. Their approach combines exercise with practical volunteering. So far, over 25,000 members have completed more than 395,000 good deeds6. This has helped improve public health, strengthen community ties and boost local resilience.
With funding from Zurich Community Trust, GoodGym will run a one-year pilot programme. This pilot will focus on using movement and volunteering to help young adults feel less lonely and improve their wellbeing.
Magic Breakfast
Magic Breakfast exists to make sure no child or young person is too hungry to learn. They provide over 200,000 nutritious breakfasts to children every day, supporting their health and learning7.
Magic Breakfast supports primary, secondary, ASN/SEND schools and pupil referral units in disadvantaged areas of England and Scotland.
Our partnership means that we donate the cost of a breakfast every time we receive an SME Transactional Net Promoter Score (tNPS) survey response from a customer. Every survey our customers complete not only helps us improve our products and services, but also makes sure another child is fuelled for learning.
