How to prepare for and respond to flood risks
07/09/2024
The UK faces more frequent and severe flooding due to climate change, with over 5.2 million properties in England - that's one in six - currently at risk of flooding from rivers, the sea, or surface water.
A report sponsored by the National Trust found that many organisations aren't ready for the increased flood posed by climate change. While action is commonly taken after a flood, we need to prepare now to avoid future disasters.
We all need to make changes - as organisations, communities and individuals - to be better prepared for flooding, instead of living with the costs of clean-ups.
Zurich have created an interactive flood guide to help you understand, prepare for and respond to a flood emergency.
|
What does the flood guide cover?
Find out more about:
- What is a flood?
- The three types of flood and common causes
- Understanding your area's flood risk
- Warning systems
- Preventive measures and risk management
- Flood emergency response plans
- What to do when a flood happens
- How to make a claim
We've also included an interactive checklist, emergency kit and contact list to help you prepare for a flood. You can also find information on Zurich's Build Back Better initiative, Flood Resilience Toolkit, and Support Services.
