In conversation with Amy Brettell
Hear from Amy on what drives her, the value of building strong customer relationships, and the passion she has for supporting organisations across the public sector.
I'm Amy Brettell, and I am really privileged to be the Managing Director for Zurich Municipal. I'm really lucky to lead a fantastic team that support the breadth and depth of the public and voluntary sector. And for me, one of the most fascinating things is actually the interconnectivity between the customer bases that we support.
I fell in love with insurance almost 20 years ago because, for me, it is fundamentally a social product. As an industry, we're there when perhaps some of the worst things happen in people's lives, and it's our job to help them as best we can. Also, we help organisations, individuals and communities take risk. I often think of insurance as an invisible superhero. Without us, so many things simply would not happen.
Perhaps one of the things I'm most proud of in recent times is the fact that, in the UK, Zurich has become a founding member of the FloodAction Coalition. The FloodAction Coalition is a group of like-minded organisations that have come together because they want to make a difference.
We recognise that nature-based solutions can play a really important part in flood resilience in this country, and we're looking for ways to scale them, to support communities and those that are impacted by the sometimes devastating consequences of flooding.
If there's one thing that's true about the public and voluntary sectors, it's that they do not stand still. Our customers are remarkable. They play such an important role in society, and perhaps it's true more than ever just how much they're needed.
I'm proud to continue to make sure that we listen and respond to the increasing demand placed on our customers, and do our bit to help them help those who need them.
