Why choose Zurich Municipal for your school motor insurance?
Cover for motor vehicles is not available through the Risk Protection Arrangement (RPA), and our motor insurance can be purchased as a standalone policy, in other words there’s no requirement to already have another policy with Zurich Municipal.
This means that, depending on the number of vehicles you’re looking to insure, you may be able to arrange cover for your school and access your policy documentation in a matter of minutes. You’ll also be able to keep track of your cover online and make mid-term adjustments.

School motor insurance - frequently asked questions
With our motor insurance for schools, you can choose from options such as: comprehensive coverage; third-party, fire and theft; or third-party only.
Included in our motor insurance:
- Unlimited mileage
- Legal expenses insurance (via ARAG) and uninsured loss recovery
- Any driver (subject to age restrictions & convictions)
- Automatic Europe-wide cover whilst driving abroad (EU and associated countries)
- A courtesy vehicle if the insured vehicle is being repaired following an accident, fire or theft
- Theft or loss of keys, to replace keys, lock transmitter and locks - no limits
- Cover for damage to or loss of personal belongings in the vehicle
- New for old replacement on cars and commercial car vehicles (conditions apply)
- Medical expenses for each person traveling in the vehicle (conditions apply)
- Emergency hotel expenses for each person traveling in the vehicle (conditions apply)
We also offer the following optional covers (available for an additional premium):
- Occasional business use - staff can use their own personal vehicles for unexpected business related use
- Community use - allows your school to offer a vehicle to a voluntary, charitable or welfare organisation for occasional use on a not for profit basis
While personal vehicles are not covered under our motor insurance for schools, you will have the option to add Occasional Business Use cover for an additional premium. This is designed for occasions where staff may have to use their own vehicles for unexpected school business. If staff use their personal vehicles for regular or pre-planned business use, they should ensure this activity is covered by their own motor insurance.

We can cover registered vehicles, such as school buses, minibuses or vans, as well as non-registered vehicles, such as lawnmowers and forklift trucks.
Plant machinery used on school grounds is not covered under this policy, but can be covered with an engineering insurance policy.
