Zurich scores hat trick at British Insurance Awards

Zurich were among the big winners at the 2022 British Insurance Awards, taking home three awards for Risk and Resilience, Customer Experience, as well as the highly coveted General Insurer of the Year award.

The British Insurance Awards, hosted by The Insurance Post, are a major event in the insurance awards calendar, aiming to highlight and honour innovation and achievement.

Here’s a round-up of the awards we won and why:

General Insurer of the Year

We are delighted to have secured the sought-after title of General Insurer of the Year at the 2022 British Insurance Awards.

In a competitive category, Zurich came out on top, demonstrating that our commitment to the needs of customers, brokers and partners, and the market is being recognised.

The award is testament to the progress Zurich have made in recent years, with improvements in underwriting and customer experience. Our strategy centres around delivering great service through local expertise, digital innovations and strong customer-centric propositions, bolstered by our core values and commitment to a sustainable future.

The immense support of our customers, brokers and partners has been vital in securing the award, and Zurich remain committed to providing them with support.

This year has also seen Zurich celebrate 100 years of operating in the UK, as well as being the only insurer featured in the top 50 of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work.

Risk and Resilience

The Risk and Resilience award was presented to Zurich for our Smart Permit initiative.

Being the first of its kind to hit the UK market, Smart Permit was co-created with customers and contractors as a solution to provide simplicity and transparency to permit procedures.

The application manages permits with construction and maintenance work, removing the need for paper permits, and provides a reliable and around-the-clock audit trail.

By simply scanning a QR code and answering permit questions, the contractor can send a comprehensive permit to the site manager for approval from their mobile or tablet. Smart Permit provides a real-time view of all work taking place, helping organisations to manage any works with their contracted suppliers in a seamless, easy and auditable manner.

The solution is in operation in hot works and has recently been expanded to cover escape of water.

Customer Experience

In a time of accelerated digital and customer change, Zurich have embarked on a journey to build stronger relationships and adapt to changing customer needs.

In 2021, Zurich launched a new Customer Experience strategy across the organisation, as part of Zurich’s commitment to our purpose and values. 

In order to bring the strategy to life, Zurich have launched:

  • A UK-wide engagement programme
  • A UK Customer Scorecard to improve the visibility of customer metrics at Executive level
  • Development of our pan-UK Customer Forum to spot common themes and solutions to challenges
  • Customer Experience Dashboards created for each business area to track current customer-led initiatives against the strategy

  • Claims Initiative of the Year – Insurer
  • Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year
  • ESG: Diversity and Inclusion Initiative of the Year
