05/27/2021
Here, we take a look at the latest industry knowledge, stories and risk insights produced by Zurich globally in May.
1. Employers navigate new challenges as post-pandemic workplace takes shape
A new world of work has arrived. Employers, ready or not, have to react with support for employees who have grown accustomed to working outside the office and will need new skills to keep up with fast-paced technological change.
2. Skills development can bridge a growing divide among workers
As a new way of working unfolds, shaped by a global pandemic and the shifting attitudes of workers, there is greater urgency than ever to ensure no one gets left behind. The “digital divides” that separate those who have the skills and technology to succeed and those who struggle to keep up must be closed if we are to create a brighter future of work.
David Henderson, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at Zurich talks about the inequities that pandemic lockdowns and other restrictions have presented as consequence of keeping workers at home. Those who have access to reliable technology and can develop the skills required for remote work have found it much easier to continue their work uninterrupted, keep their careers on track and contribute to the welfare of their communities than those who do not have those advantages.
3. Employees expect companies to play a bigger role in wellbeing
Employers are increasingly taking responsibility for the health and wellbeing of their people, recognizing that employees are their most valuable asset and have a right to expect that they will be cared for, experts agree.
Research for the report, “Shaping a brighter future of work: Global and Local Market Insights,” produced by Zurich and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at the University of Oxford, revealed that employees around the world are looking to their employers to participate more in their overall wellbeing. Employers have a high “duty of care,” particularly in the wake of a global pandemic that has reshaped the world of work, those interviewed for the report noted.
4. A brighter future of work in the era of growth – building workforce resilience and sustainability
