Zurich UK has today become the first insurer to formally sign the Fair Future for Finance Responsible AI Charter, reinforcing its commitment to ethical employment practices as the use of AI continues to grow across the financial services sector.

The charter, developed by Community Union, sets out a clear framework for responsible AI adoption in the workplace, with a focus on fairness, transparency and equipping employees with the skills they need to thrive alongside new technologies.

Zurich formally signed the charter at a roundtable event held at the insurer’s London office in Mark Lane, bringing together industry representatives and invited dignitaries to discuss the opportunities and responsibilities associated with the increased use of AI in financial services.

By signing the charter, Zurich UK has committed to:

  • Using AI responsibly and ethically across the organisation
  • Acting as a responsible AI employer
  • Equipping its people with the skills they need to be AI ready through training and capability building

The commitment reflects Zurich UK’s people centred approach to innovation, placing trust, long term sustainability and the responsible adoption of new technologies at its core.

Asha Kumar, Chief Technology Officer at Zurich UK, said:

“AI has the potential to transform how we work and the value we deliver for customers, but it also brings important responsibilities. Responsible AI is not optional for us; it is fundamental to building trust and credibility.

“While AI is not new to Zurich, our focus is on strengthening confidence, capability and trust as the technology continues to evolve, and ensuring innovation and responsibility go hand in hand.

“Signing the Fair Future for Finance Responsible AI Charter is a clear statement of our intent to use AI ethically, transparently and in a way that supports our people.”

Steve Collinson, Chief HR and Sustainability Officer at Zurich UK, said:

“As AI becomes an increasingly important part of how we work, our priority is ensuring it is introduced in a way that supports our people, not just our processes. Signing the Fair Future for Finance Responsible AI Charter reinforces our commitment to being a responsible AI employer: building skills, strengthening trust and making sure our colleagues are equipped and confident as technology evolves. This is about creating a future of work that is fair, inclusive and shaped with people at its heart.”

Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:

“We’re delighted that Zurich UK has become the first insurer to sign the Fair Future for Finance Responsible AI Charter. Such a commitment demonstrates leadership in ensuring AI is introduced in a way that is fair, inclusive, and centred on people.

“AI is transforming the finance sector, and our charter calls on employers to ensure new technologies will not be used to impinge upon hard-won workplace rights. Another core aim is for businesses to empower employees by making dedicated AI training available to workers across the sector.

“Zurich has taken a decisive first step by signing the charter, and we are very grateful for their support with this campaign. Partnerships such as this are critical in shaping a future of work that benefits employees, employers and society as a whole.”
