- Four London charities have been awarded £300,000 over two years, including existing partner The Soup Kitchen
- New charity partners including Dementia Concern and Woman’s Trust have been awarded £40,000 each
- Charities were chosen by Zurich’s London based employees, with a focus on poverty, mental health, dementia, and abuse
Zurich Community Trust (ZCT) has donated £300,000 to London-based charities over two years as part of a support package worth more than £2m to regional organisations around the UK. The partnerships will last for two years.
Funding of £40,000 was donated to Dementia Concern to help pay for a Community Support Worker, evening classes and a dementia dinner dance. The same amount was donated to Woman’s Trust, a specialist mental health charity supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse across London, which will fund twenty-two support groups for up to 176 women over two years.
Meanwhile £40,000 was donated to The Soup Kitchen to pay for much needed supplies, such as sleeping bags, clothing, and shoes, as well as help with rising food prices.
£30,000 was donated to The Deborah Ubee Trust, a Greenwich-based charity that promotes emotional health and wellbeing. The grant will support a Young People’s Director, the clinical supervision of the volunteer counselling team, professional-development training for the staff and volunteer team, and a contribution towards the increased running costs of its centre.
The insurer has also integrated a charity donation platform, MyImpact, which allows employees to make regular or one-off donations to partner charities. Each donation will be matched by 100% by ZCT. For every 10 hours of volunteering recorded on the platform, employees will receive £100 to donate to their favourite charity partner.
Heidi Riedel, Women’s Trust CEO said:
“The two-year grant from Zurich Community Trust could not have come at a more crucial time for Woman’s Trust. We all share the excitement of this wonderful opportunity to partner with Zurich Community Trust and cannot wait to get started. The funding will make a life-changing and, at times, lifesaving difference to domestic abuse survivors’ recovery journey.”
Steve Grimmett, Head of Zurich Community Trust, added:
“The cost-of-living crisis is affecting both households and charitable organisations, with inflation and high energy costs meaning budgets must now stretch further. Zurich Community Trust is proud that these donations will help to ease the pressure for charities in London, picked by Zurich’s employees.”
