Zurich Risk Insights Podcasts: Climate Risk Series

Our new brand purpose it to create a brighter future for all, so in this next series of podcasts we interview experts from across the Zurich business and explore how climate change is impacting risk management practices and how organisations can prepare for these fast-changing risks.

Episode 01- The impact of Covid-19 on climate risks

We talk to John Scott, Head of Sustainability Risk at Zurich about how the global lockdowns changed our air, with global emissions in April decreasing by 17% compared with the whole of 2019. And how the race for economic recovery following the pandemic could threaten our climate change progress.

Episode 02- Building a climate resilience strategy

Preparing for risks on average cost organisations 5 times less than dealing with an event. Amar Rahman, Global Practice Leader Natural Hazards, Zurich Risk Engineering and Belinda Bates, Senior Climate Risk Analyst Climate Risks join us to discuss how organisations can develop a climate resilience strategy.

Episode 03- Flood risks

The last 10 years have been the hottest on record, showing us that climate change is causing hotter summers and milder wetter winters. With more rainfall inevitably comes more flooding. Ralph de Mesquita, Principal Risk Analyst Zurich Risk Engineering, joins the podcast to talk about how organisations can prepare for flooding.

Episode 04- Windstorms

The great storm of 1987 uprooted 15million trees. With climate change causing more extreme weather we talk to Jen Clark, Risk Analyst for Zurich Risk Engineering UK about how to prepare for Windstorms.

Episode 05- Rising Temperatures

Recent years have shown that as a result of climate change we can expect more frequent, longer and hotter heatwaves with some of the hottest temperatures in 2019 being recorded on the London Underground. How will this affect the way we work and live, in this episode David Hounsell, Senior Liability Risk Engineer discusses the human impact of rising temperatures.

Episode 06- Building Back Better

In order for the UK to reach its carbon emissions targets by 2050 every home will need to be carbon neutral. In 2018 residential properties were responsible for producing around 15% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. Alix Bedford, Risk Proposition Manager for Zurich Municipal joins the podcast to share how building back better and making our properties more efficient will help to combat climate change.
