Spring events and fundraising for charities and not-for-profits

Now the weather is better and with the Easter holidays on the horizon, many charities and community groups are promoting spring events and fundraising activities. Here are a few great examples and some useful links if you are getting ready to plan your own seasonal events.

A huge chocolate egg

Beacon Vision, which supports people with sight loss in the Midlands, is hosting an Easter raffle. The star prize is a huge Easter Egg which is over a metre high! Tickets are being sold online and in person at Beacon's charity shops and other locations. The winner must be able to get to Beacon’s Wolverhampton centre to collect the giant egg! Supporter Engagement Manager, Sophie Higgins said: "Our Easter raffle is an annual tradition. It’s perfect for the chocoholics among us and it always gets people talking!" There will be poetry and animals and chocolately treats. Caroline Garland Director from Kilter said: "We love our seasonal celebrations! Seeing our family audiences have such a fun time together in the great outdoors is a real joy! It's a great way to bring the community together and re engage with nature and make new traditions. People return each year."

An Easter ceilidh

Knoydart Community Hall is a community venue in the heart of the village of Inverie on the Knoydart Peninsula in the Highlands on the west coast of Scotland. It runs a year-round programme of arts and music as well as hosting sports, education, meetings, conferences and social events. On 8th April, the hall is hosting an Easter Ceilidh. Organiser Isla told us: “The Easter Ceilidh is an important event in our programme. You’ll find a mix of young and old as well as locals and visitors on the dance floor all enjoying themselves. The Black Hills Ceilidh Band are local. Two of the three members grew up here and all now live here. All have attended or are currently at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire studying music in Glasgow. It’s an event not to be missed and our first ceilidh of 2023!”

The people of Quatt in Shropshire will be hoping for a fine day for their community walk on Sunday 16 April. The Village Hall are organising two walks, one for toddler legs and one for grown-up legs. There are prizes and chocolate. Non-walkers are invited too to stay in the hall and guard the cake! Quatt Village Hall Chair, Annette Nicholls, explained, "our traditional Easter walk includes a beautiful walk in the woods and fields of Quatt, with activities for children.
