Double win at 2020 British Insurance Awards
11/22/2020
After being the most shortlisted candidate at the 2020 British Insurance Awards, Zurich and Navigators and General were victorious in two categories at the ceremony on the 17th November.
Business Sustainability/Corporate Responsibility Campaign Award
The first of the awards was for Zurich’s ‘Buy Social’ campaign, which won the award for Best Business Sustainability/Corporate Responsibility Campaign.
The Buy Social campaign is focused on the products, services and suppliers in our supply chain across the globe, putting sustainability at the centre of all our sourcing decisions. The campaign’s framework gives our Procurement teams the minimum standards, tools and support to ensure sustainability is considered at every stage. For instance, all of our stationery supplies are provided by Wildhearts office supply products, and our spend has transformed 1,290 lives through microfinance to set up businesses. It’s also funded 645 `love to learn` education packs, providing access to education to Sub Saharan Africa.
Zurich are one of the founding members of Social Enterprise UK’s “Buy Social” Corporate Challenge, which commits 10 large UK companies from diverse industries to have spent £100m with social enterprise firms. The initiative, set up by Social Enterprise UK and the Cabinet Office, promotes sourcing and buying from British social enterprises.
Specialist Insurer of the Year
Our second win was by Navigators and General (N&G), who won the award for Specialist Insurer of the Year.
In 2019, N&G sailed towards becoming the UK's leading specialist marine insurer by adding over 16,000 new customers to their books. Next year marks 100 years since Captain William Coombs incorporated the Navigators and General Insurance Company on 1 March 1921, meaning a century of providing specialist marine insurance products.
Maria Cospito, Head of N&G, is delighted at the win: “What an achievement and what a fantastic end to a great year. We have so much to celebrate and be proud of.”
