Covid-19: looking after employee mental health and wellbeing on return to the workplace
The aftermath of Covid-19 will affect employees and their organisations in different ways and will be dependent on a wide range of factors. The industry sector, type of work and the employee job role will have determined the organisational approach to meeting the government guidelines. However, on an individual level, the pandemic will have affected people in different ways.
Some employees will be anxious about returning to the workplace and the increased chance of infection whilst being there, or what hazards may be presented in everyday workplace situations that could transfer or spread the virus. Many more employees may start to seek reassurance that their employer has the necessary safeguards and protective measures in place if they are being requested to return.
As preparations are made for employees to return to the workplace, it is important that organisations make provision for safe working practices, try to involve employees in their decisions, and then clearly communicate their plans. Organisations and sectors will differ in their requirements, but it is important that plans are shared to help address any concerns from employees, or their families, about their return to work.
