What our partnership will fund

Our grant of £75,000 a year for three years will mean we can:
  • Enable Dementia UK to employ a new Admiral Nurse to work on their Dementia Helpline
  • Help to cover their phone costs, so Dementia UK can continue to provide free support across the UK

It's estimated one Admiral Nurse will support 12,000 people over the course of three years.

The specialist dementia support families need

Through the stresses and strains, and simply not knowing how to cope with the changes, families can split apart. In fact 40% of people caring for a family member with dementia have clinical depression or anxiety.

Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurse service. When things get challenging or difficult, Admiral Nurses work alongside people with dementia and their families. They give the one-to-one support, guidance and practical solutions people need to face dementia with more confidence and less fear.

Their 225 Admiral Nurses help families in communities across the country, and through the free Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline. For so many, Admiral Nurses are a lifeline, helping them to understand the changes that dementia brings and giving them practical strategies to cope.

The difference we will make together

With the number of people living with dementia rising every year - one person is diagnosed with dementia every three minutes - Dementia UK need to increase the number of nurses available and the specialist support they can provide.

Which is why our £75,000 annual grant will go where it is most needed - to fund a new nurse for Dementia UK's Dementia Helpline. Calls and emails to the Helpline have trebled in three years. To meet this growing need, Dementia UK has expanded their opening hours to 9am-9pm five days a week and 9am-5pm at weekends. However, many people getting in touch, so often in distress, cannot get through straightaway.

With our support, Dementia UK can change that and significantly increase the number of people the charity helps.

People like Sheila: “I was now in the depths of despair. I had begun to plan how we could die. Someone suggested I ring the Admiral Nurse Helpline. I did, and I swear that Nurse saved my life.”

Through the new Admiral Nurse and our help to cover their phone costs, around 12,000 people will benefit by receiving expert support.

Thank you for helping us to be there for carers like Sheila, when they need us most.
