What's the challenge?

Swindon Carers Centre  is one of our local Zurich Cares partners.  Their young carers' team aims to promote and safeguard the rights of all young carers by providing support, information and breaks from their caring responsibilities. 

They need a small team to assist them on Thursday 23 Nov from 1.30 - 4.30 pm with an event for older carers and the person they care for.  Some have dementia.  Tasks will include serving afternoon tea, making simple festive items and generally making sure all of the attendees have a good time.

Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis is a self-help group which exists to support people with MS, their carers and families as well as those suffering from other neurological conditions.

They have an Xmas Fayre at the end of November in their Centre and would like some help on the day with setting up and particularly after the event from 1.30 - 3.00pm with clearing up, hoovering etc to get the centre ready for usual business again.  Could be an early and late shift?

Stonewater Housing Association, Hazelmead House, Old Town provides supported housing for people recovering from severe and lasting mental health issues.  Ultimately, their aim is to help their clients move forward to independent living in the community.

Please bring Christmas to Hazelmead by putting up the deccies in their lounge and hallway.  They have decorations already but a few new ones would be nice and they will buy them if required.

Swindon Downs Syndrome Group.

What's the challenge?

Swindon Downs Syndrome Group supports young people with Downs Syndrome in the SN postcode, their families and carers. They do this through providing information, advice, training, therapy and social activities. 

They are holding a jumble sale Saturday 11th November from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm at Gorse Hill church.  They need a team of volunteers working in two hour shifts throughout the event to set up, serve and sell, sell, sell!

Swindon Downs Syndrome Group supports young people with Downs Syndrome in the SN postcode, their families and carers.    They do this through providing information, advice, training, therapy and social activities. 

 

The Group are arranging a Christmas Party for all of their families, and would like you to provide a chocolate treat to be given to each of their 80 children as a pressie to take home.

The Trussell Trust Shoebox Appeal

What's the challenge?

The Trussell Trust Shoebox Appeal:  Every year, staff in Swindon kindly fill a shoebox with goodies that will be sent overseas, and given to a person who would otherwise receive nothing during the festive season.   They do this as individuals, or with family members/friends.  We donate nearly 200 shoeboxes each year to this appeal.  The 2017 Appeal launches late October.  

 

Teams can now support the appeal by making up 20 shoeboxes.  A full list of all items required is available along with a Top 10 Tips sheet on how to buy effectively to reduce the cost of filling each box. Obviously, more than one team can take up this challenge.

What's the challenge?

Swindon Children Without a Diagnosis (SCWAD) is a support group for around 40 children with a rare disorder or no diagnosis for their learning disabilities aged 0 – 19 years and their families.

They are holding a Christmas Party on Saturday 9 December and would like a team to buy pressies for up to 20 disabled children.  The first name, age and gift ideas will be provided by the charity (maximum spend per child should be £15).  An added bonus would be if somebody could play Santa and give the pressies out.

What's the challenge?

Alzheimer’s Society, Swindon, the local branch of our National Partner, raise awareness of dementia and aim to reduce the stigma of the disease.  They support local people with dementia and their carers via advice, support and social activities.

On Saturday 16 December, they are holding their Christmas Party for members. Please help to make the day a success by providing  Festive Serviettes, a Christmas Cake and Mince Pies.

Coram Voice serves children and young people who are vulnerable to harm or exclusion from society, and who rely on the state or its agencies for their rights and wellbeing.

They support hundreds of local children every year, but would like 35 selection boxes for the children who attend the children in care council.  These kind donations would be presented to them at their Christmas party.

What's the challenge?

Coram Voice serves children and young people who are vulnerable to harm or exclusion from society, and who rely on the state or its agencies for their rights and wellbeing.

 

They support a number of 16 - 18 year olds who are living independently.  They would like 10 Goodie Boxes to make Christmas a far happier time for these young people.  A suggested contents list can be provided but things like pasta, rice, toiletries, canned fruit and beans would be ideal - plus a festive choccie treat.

Please provide some of their clients with a coffee, cake and carols morning.  The clients use singing as part of their therapy as it helps them to regain their speech.  This would really cheer them up and start their festive season.

Here's a challenge for the whole building plus family and friends !  It's time to go through your cupboards and wardrobes to throw out those clothes, books, cd's, toys and homeware that you'll never use again in readiness for your Chrimbo pressies.  Please provide 15 bags full of good quality second hand items to replenish the stock in Mind's Wantage shop.  Mind will provide branded bags.  All you have to do is fill them and Mind will pick them up.  What could be more simple?

What's the challenge?

Big Breakfast + provides a cooked breakfast in central Swindon to homeless people and those in need, including rough sleepers.  They are open six days a week from 7.00 - 9.00 am and over the period of a year will serve 7,000 breakfasts! 

A fundraising challenge. Please raise the funds to buy a tree and decorations to make the church hall used for breakfasts more festive.... And if that isn't enough community collaboration, refugees supported by the Harbour Project will put the deccies up!
