Alzheimer Café

What's the challenge?

Alzheimer Café Farnborough branch has been meeting monthly for 15 years. It provides education, information and support for people diagnosed with dementia, and for their families and carers.

They would love a team to provide some light festive refreshments for 50 - 60 people at their annual Christmas Social event on Friday 15 December from 7–9pm. They have the use of a fully equipped kitchen with a serving hatch, and food could be laid out on a table inside the hall for guests to self serve. They will have a live band and a choir singing Christmas carols. They would welcome you to stay for the evening to join in their festivities.  

 

1066  Santa Claus is coming to town

Woodlarks

What's the challenge?

Woodlarks Campsite near Farnham provides holiday accommodation and activities for disabled children. Children from all over the UK can enjoy exciting breaks here, while the site caters for their disabilities.  

Website

Every year, they create a really magical Santa's grotto within the woodland on their site. Approx. 180 children with profound and complex needs come to see Santa at this enchanting place completely free of charge. The entire event is funded solely by the efforts of the Woodlarks team. They would really appreciate some help from as many teams as possible providing wrapped Christmas gifts "from Santa". Each gift would be worth up to £15 and they need to get 180 of them from any source they can. Any presents you can offer will be very gratefully received. This challenge can be booked by multiple teams. Please advise the number of presents your team wishes to provide upon booking.

Step by Step 

What's the challenge?

Step by Step's mission is to empower homeless people and those facing adversity to achieve their full potential. They work with young homeless people (aged 11 to 25), many of whom have been victims of family breakdown, or have suffered abuse. They provide support, accommodation and personal development, to enable young people to progress. 

Website

Bring some Christmas cheer into their accommodation services, get a team together and ‘Deck their foyers with boughs of holly’.  They have foyers in Aldershot & Basingstoke. Dates and times are flexible - end of November/ early December. Groups of up to 10 at a time welcome. 

Decorating their foyers cost money and time, but can mean a lot to their staff and the young people emotionally.

Step by Step 

What's the challenge?

Step by Step's mission is to empower homeless people and those facing adversity to achieve their full potential. They work with young homeless people (aged 11 to 25), many of whom have been victims of family breakdown, or have suffered abuse. They provide support, accommodation and personal development, to enable young people to progress.                                       

Website 

They would love a team to throw a Christmas Party a week or two before Christmas for the young people they support. This can be done at one of their local foyers or at the office, with groups of up to 6 people if it is taking place at their foyer. A Christmas Party would mean a lot to the young people they support as Christmas can be particularly tough for people going through hard times.

Phyllis Tuckwell 

What's the challenge?

Phyllis Tuckwell is the only Hospice Care service for adult patients, and their families, living with cancer or another terminal illness (such as heart, lung or neurological disease) across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire.

Frensham Christmas Fair is taking place on Tuesday 21st November at Aldridge Theatre and they would love 4-6 volunteers to support with the set up and running of it over a 4 hour shift. You would be supporting stallholders to unload their cars, carry goods, set up tables, man the entrance table, take payments and welcome customers to the Fair, or even run their stall selling Christmas cards/goods. 

 

 

1076  Packing Santa Bags

Every year 100’s of people in Surrey get their Santa outfits on and enjoy a great family fun run (or walk). With mulled wine, mince pies and festive tracks, it is a fantastic way to kick off the festive season and raise vital funds for Phyllis Tuckwell. They need help with goody bag packing before the Aldershot Santa Fun Run. Can you spare a couple of hours on Wednesday 6th or Thurs 7th December?

 

1077  Got Christmas in Mind?

MIND

What's the challenge?

Mind, one of our current national partners, is the key provider of mental health services and support. They make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone.

 

Website 

 

Mind challenges a team to provide 15 bags full of good quality second hand items to replenish the stock in their Woking charity shop. Go through your cupboards and wardrobes to throw out those clothes, books, cd's, toys and homeware that you'll never use again. Mind will provide branded bags - all you have to do is fill them and deliver your donations to their shop.
