Maureen Carnan,   former Zurich employee (Corporate Real Estate) in The Grange,  Cheltenham.

Maureen has been a volunteer supporting Age UK's 'Call in Time' for five years.  She is continuing with her valuable commitment even though she retired in October 2014.

"I can thoroughly recommend retirement. It is so nice having the time to do things at a leisurely pace!", says Maureen.

"I am still phoning my lady, Pat, once a week.  We speak in the early evening as this suits her and also it does not restrict me if I am going out during the day.  We chat for about an hour and always seem to find plenty of things to talk about.  I am really glad that I could continue with the scheme after retiring as we have built up a friendship during the five years and it would be so sad if it had to end.  If I am unable to phone on the allocated evening, I either rearrange for another evening or we just skip that week. Pat is quite happy with that and I always let Stephanie (from Age UK) know if we are skipping our weekly call.

I continue to meet up with ex-colleagues and some of the other retirees which is nice, as it is good to keep in contact.  After all, we did spend many hours working together so now we can spend time socialising together."

Thank you, Maureen, for continuing to make a difference to Pat's life.   You can find out more here about the Call in Time programme.
