Applying for an overseas grant

THE OVERSEAS GRANTS PROGRAMME FOR 2017 IS NOW CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS.   

If you submitted an application, you will be notified by 1 July whether your application has progressed to the final stage for consideration.  If your application is successful in reaching that final stage, we will then notify all applicants by 30 September to advise whether your application is successful or not.

We fund overseas work in all continents which seek to enable people to address the basic needs of their communities. Our total overseas grant budget for 2017 is £75,000.

All applications must come from UK registered charities.

What we fund

We are looking for projects which show some or all of the following:

  • A high degree of training and skills transfer
  • Innovation
  • A holistic approach to development
  • Cost effective and effective solutions
  • Clear objectives and outcomes which can be measured and evaluated within a reasonable timescale  

 

What we don't fund

We do have limited funds and this means we have to lay down strict criteria for giving. We are sorry if your project doesn’t fit our criteria but we are unable to do it all!

  • Disaster relief or emergency work (from this fund, although staff have generously supported recent Appeals such as the Haiti Appeal)
  • Proposals which show any racial, political or religious bias
  • Individuals
  • Expeditions or study exchanges
  • Medical research Fundraising events or Appeals

How to apply

The Overseas Grant Programme application window for 2017 is now CLOSED.  The application window for overseas grants will re-open in January 2018. Thank you.

When to apply

The grant applications are reviewed and decisions made by an Overseas Grants Committee, consisting of Zurich employee volunteers from across the UK.   

The committee holds a series of meetings from May to September every year.  The closing date for overseas grant applications this year was 31 March.  You will be notified by 1 July whether your application has progressed to the final stage for consideration.  If your application is successful in reaching that final stage, we will then notify all applicants by 30 September to advise whether your application is successful or not.
