Jane Percy House

What's the challenge?

Jane Percy House is part of The Disabilities Trust and they provide specialist services for people with physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, arthritis, stroke, multiple sclerosis and disabilities resulting from accidents.

All 25 service users would benefit hugely from some volunteers tidying up their courtyard garden area. This area is used a lot during the year but mostly once the weather improves. Most service users love to sit out when its warm and socialise with each other and their families.

The charity are currently fundraising for a sensory garden to add to their grounds - if volunteers take on this challenge it will also be a lot easier to start the process of purchasing new plants for their beautiful smells or touch, and vibrant colours along with some wind chimes.

FareShare North East

What's the challenge?

FareShare North East supports communities to combat food poverty and food waste in and around Newcastle Upon Tyne. The team redistribute food to many charities and community groups. Their community food members provide vitally needed meals, food parcels and snacks to hundreds of disadvantaged people every day. They work with a huge variety of people experiencing hardship - from people who are homeless or unemployed, people dealing with substance misuse, refugees and asylum-seekers at drop-ins, Surestart centres, and breakfast and after-school clubs for children and young adults.

FareShare North East would love a team to get involved at the heart of their food re-distribution, giving you the opportunity to help them improve the daily lives of people facing food poverty.

Their daily operations rely entirely on volunteers and you will be working alongside staff and other volunteers on one or more of the following activities…Picking food orders. Working with staff and fellow volunteers to make up orders for each of their organisations receiving food on that day. Labelling orders and helping to load the vans. Sorting food and organising the depot. Sorting fresh fruit and veg. This could be picked up by more than one team.

This can be taken up by more than one team.
