760  Store Wars!

Challenge group size: S

Age NI

What's the challenge?

Age NI is the leading charity for older people in Northern Ireland. They believe that living longer should be celebrated and that those who need help should be supported. They exist to support more people to love later life now and in the future.

Take over two shops (for example - Belfast and Bangor). The idea is to do as much fundraising on the run up to the day and then have a fun day in the shop to encourage people to come in. The raising of money in the run up to the Store Wars Day can be through the donations of goods/clothes, organising cake bakes, dress down days/ taking part in a 10K run. On the day of the event in the shops, staff are encouraged to try and get as many people into their shops. All volunteers will be given a full induction of how the shop is run by our shop managers in advance of the day in store. This needs to be taken up by two small teams

CLIC Sargent - when cancer strikes young lives

What's the challenge?

CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. They fight tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that the families can focus on the important things, like their child getting well.

CLIC Sargent challenge you to collect items to create some emergency care packages which will benefit Belfast's Home from Home 'Paul's House' and/or 'Amy's House'. You will be provided with a list of suggested items, which will include everyday items such as toiletries, tea and coffee and not forgetting the biscuits!  This can be taken up by more than one team.

FareShare NI

What's the challenge?

FareShare NI supports communities to combat food poverty and food waste in and around Belfast. The team redistribute food to many charities and community groups. Their community food members provide vitally needed meals, food parcels and snacks to hundreds of disadvantaged people every day. They work with a huge variety of people experiencing hardship - from people who are homeless or unemployed, people dealing with substance abuse, refugees and asylum-seekers at drop-ins, Surestart centres, and breakfast and after-school clubs for children and young adults.

FareShare NI would love some teams to get involved at the heart of their food re-distribution, giving you the opportunity to help them improve the daily lives of people facing food poverty. Their daily operations rely entirely on volunteers and you will be working alongside staff and other volunteers on one or more of the following activities…

  • Picking food orders.

  • Working with staff and fellow volunteers to make up orders for each of their organisations receiving food on that day.

  • Labelling orders and helping to load the vans.

  • You may also be asked to help deliver the items in the van.

  • Sorting food and organising the depot.

  • Sorting fresh fruit and veg.

This can be taken up by more than one team.
