Quarriers

What's the challenge?

Quarriers is one of Scotland’s largest social care charities. They provide practical care and support for vulnerable children, adults and families who face extremely challenging circumstances. They challenge poverty and inequality of opportunity to bring about positive changes in people’s lives.

Website

Thorn Park is about 7 miles out of Glasgow and provides supported living for people with learning and physical disabilities.

They would love a team to come in and paint their very long perimeter fence! It is in desperate need of staining and protecting from the elements. They would also love the team to provide some colourful garden plant containers to brighten up the garden and the view from the lounge window. They would be happy to provide lunch on the day for all volunteers! 8 to 10 volunteers would be ideal.

East Park

What's the challenge?

East Park provides an important service to families across Scotland, delivering excellent residential care and education to children and young people aged 5 to 25 with complex additional support needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attachment Disorder, physical and sensory impairments, learning difficulties and behavioural challenges.

Website

East Park would love a team to decorate one of their residential houses - the living room, bedroom (wardrobe doors), kitchen/dining room and bathroom all need painting. They also need some internal doors washed down to get them gleaming again! They'd also love to see the newly painted walls adorned with some vinyl decals.  This will benefit at least 4 children and young people.

All of the children and young people have complex addition support needs - you will be redecorating their home and making it look fresh and welcoming again. Photos >

Erskine

What's the challenge?

The original Erskine Hospital was established in 1916 to care for wounded soldiers and sailors returning from the battlefields of the First World War.

Over 100 years later, the organisation now cares for an average of 1,000 elderly and disabled ex-Service men and women, their spouses and widows/widowers each year through nursing, dementia, palliative and respite care in four Erskine Homes across Scotland’s Central Belt.

Erskine offer care to men and women with a broad range of complex care needs, including those living with a physical disability and those with neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, or cognitive impairments including all forms of dementia.  They provide on-site services in all of their homes including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, recreational and social activities, dentistry, podiatry, hairdressing and more.

Website

Erskine would love a team to visit the Erskine Glasgow Home and spend the morning helping with some painting/gardening tasks and then spend the afternoon taking part in some activites with the residents. For the morning, they need the following help:

  • Central decking needs rubbing down and re-staining.
  • All the wooden raised garden beds, planters and some of the garden furniture also needs re-staining.
  • General tidy of all garden areas used by residents of the home and bark chips also need to be spread throughout the garden.
  • In the afternoon, the volunteers would spend some time with the residents playing games - perhaps a quiz with some afternoon tea!

All 47 residents, their families and friends, staff and volunteers will benefit from this activity. It will allow Erskine to tidy up the gardens for their use in the summer, when residents and families typically enjoy sitting outside together in good weather, taking part in outdoor activities and holding events such as the Summer Fete and garden party.
