131  Be a lifeline for Lifehouse

The LifeHouse

What's the challenge?

The LifeHouse is a resource, support centre and kitchen that serves hot food in Albert Road, Southsea. They target the immediate needs and issues surrounding homelessness and addiction for those in Southsea and Portsmouth.

Website

They challenge a team to supply, prepare, cook and serve the food for one of their Wednesday morning drop-in breakfasts.

 

132  Emergency Care Package

CLIC Sargent

What's the challenge?

When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. They will fight tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well.

CLIC Sargent challenges you to collect items to create five emergency care packages which can go into the Southampton Home from Home. 

You will be provided with a list of suggested items, which will include everyday items such as toiletries, tea and coffee (and not forgetting the biscuits!).

133  Store Wars

FareShare Southern Central 

What's the challenge?

FareShare Southern Central provides good quality food to charities and community organisations in Hampshire. They support breakfast clubs, food banks, lunch clubs for older people, night shelters, day centres, community cafes and projects supporting vulnerable young people and those with addictions and mental health. Working closely with the food and drink industry they ensure that no good food goes to waste.

The challenge is to sort, pick and pack one ton of surplus food which will be distributed to charities and community groups.

In a team of four, you will be rolling your sleeves up and getting stuck in. It is a physically demanding role as you will be expected to lift trays of food up to 15kg. You will also have the chance to go out in the van delivering food to charity partners.

134  Store Wars

DEBRA 

What's the challenge?

DEBRA work to support people suffering from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Imagine the worst burn you ever had … the burn is spread all over your body – on your skin, in your mouth, throat, eyes – and never healing. That’s EB. EB affects over 5,000 people in the UK alone – although thousands still remain misdiagnosed or unidentified.

They would like to offer the opportunity to take on a store wars event for DEBRA. Two teams 'take over' two separate DEBRA charity shops for the day (in Fareham, Havant or Southampton) and compete to see who can raise the most money. 

You could organise extra activities to help you raise more. Be as inventive as you can, as long as you stay within the law and work with the shop manager and volunteers - they know the shop and customers best!  Will you be the winning team? 

This challenge can be booked by 2 teams, if only 1 team takes on this challenge then you will spend the day helping out at one of their shops.

135  Junior Great South

Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association

What's the challenge?

Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association provides essential friendship, advice and educational services to children and their families in Portsmouth and South Hampshire.

Website

They would love a team of supporters to come along and help manage their Great South Run 5k and Junior teams on Saturday 20th October. You would need to support them between 9am – 3.30pm on Southsea Common. 

Tasks include registering the runners, meeting and greeting families, blowing up balloons, giving out flags and balloons to the public, giving out and collecting in running vests, cheering the runners and helping to tidy away.

136  They Pick You

Friends of PICU

What's the challenge?

Friends of PICU are a registered charity who support the Peadiatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton University Hospital who provide first class care and treatment to 900+ critically ill children every year from all over the South of England and the Channel Islands.

Friends of PICU are really excited about their upcoming FAMILY FUN DAY on Saturday 23 June. They would love a team from Zurich to pop along to 'The Cleveland Bay Pub' in Chandlers Ford to help set-up from 9am -12 midday. They would also like help with manning a stall during the afternoon, and some help packing-up between 5 - 6pm.  

The event relies on volunteer support to make it a success and a fun enjoyable day for all.  You could also bring your family too to join in the fun. 

137 Help conquer stroke

The Stroke Association

What's the challenge?

The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to conquering stroke. There are more than 100,000 strokes in the UK each year; that’s around one stroke every five minutes. Stroke is the fourth single leading cause of death in the UK and stroke is a leading cause of disability in the UK – almost two thirds of stroke survivors leave hospital with a disability. There are over 400 childhood strokes a year in the UK.

They challenge a team to take on a fundraising event for Stroke Association.This could be setting up a Games night,  holding a sip for stroke, Step Out for stroke as a team and 'Walk your Way' or anything else that takes your fancy! 

You will be given full support from their regional fundraiser every step of the way. Raising awareness of stroke is equally important to raising money to provide better care for stroke survivors. Together we will conquer stroke!  

138 Stock Take

They challenge a team to collect stock to donate to their charity shops in Fareham, Havant or Southampton. They always require quality items to sell so clear out your cupboards and get friends/family/colleagues on board to do the same and then deliver to local DEBRA charity shops to sell to raise monies. 

As a team if you can sort through the donations and split them into bags of different categories eg clothes,cds, dvds etc.. it would really help their shop staff. 

This challenge can be booked by up to 3 teams.
