They would love a team to revamp the training room at Krystal House in Havant, an accommodation centre for young people who are facing homelessness in the local area.

Tasks would include dividing the room into three separate areas to create an office, training area and chillout area and then brighten up the room with a lick of paint.

They have recently taken on a Forest School / Pre-school site based at Itchen Valley Country Park and they are looking for volunteers to assist with making improvements, the development of pre-school children.

Could your team help with a sailing boat that's been donated and is in need of a sand and re-paint, to allow exploration and discovery to be fully realised. This could include painting a compass, or numbers on the boat to encourage counting. And re-vamp the basic obstacle course for climbing and improving motor, balance and co-ordination skills. Also includes painting the decking area (paint supplied), to create a stage area for imaginary play, and last but not least, level the area underneath the tent and remove a tree stump. This challenge would need to be completed during the school holidays or on an inset day.

The Society of St James (SSJ)

What's the challenge?

The Society of St James (SSJ) is a registered charity and a registered provider of social housing. They provide a wide range of support and accommodation to help people experiencing homelessness, substance misuse problems and mental health problems. They run community programmes to help people address their substance misuse and have a care home for older people who have alcohol dependency problems. They now require additional help with the hostels they provide to homeless adults and young people and also the accommodation provided to help homeless families. Photos >

Southampton Street Intensive Support Homeless Hostel houses 26 very vulnerable individuals, many with serious drug and alcohol problems. The hostel is a four storey building which is quite old and gets a lot of wear and tear.

They would like a team to make the reception area feel warm and welcome. This is the first area that anyone sees when they enter the house so it is important that it feels inviting and homely. A contribution towards paint may be available.

It needs painting and ‘re-vamping’.Some new cushions or something would really brighten it up too.
