Scottish First Minister opens new Zurich Glasgow office

- Zurich expands presence in Scotland
- focus on customer experience and settlement times with new approach to GI Claims

Nicola Sturgeon opens new Glasgow officeNicola Sturgeon MSP, the Scottish First Minister, has, this afternoon, officially opened the insurer’s new, state-of-the-art office, in Glasgow.

As it expands its presence in Scotland, the insurer has relocated from the Eagle Building on Bothwell Street, to the 7th Floor of the St Vincent Plaza office development in the heart of Glasgow’s business district.

The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said, “I’m delighted to attend the opening of Zurich’s new St. Vincent Plaza office in the heart of Glasgow’s thriving business district.  

“It’s testament to the skills and knowledge of the local workforce that a major employer such as Zurich is expanding its presence in Scotland and we would encourage others to follow their example.”

Commenting on the new office, Zurich’s UK CEO Tulsi Naidu said, “I’m delighted to be growing our presence in Scotland – and in such a vibrant part of Glasgow. I’m even more pleased that the First Minister acknowledges our commitment to the region and has made the time to be here today to officially open what is one of our most modern UK office spaces.” 

A modern workplace
St Vincent Plaza - New Zurich office in GlasgowBoasting spectacular views across Glasgow and the Kingston Bridge, the building has been designed to maximise efficiency and to minimise running costs achieving both a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘Excellent’ rating as well as an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ‘A’ rating.

The new office provides a sustainable and dynamic workspace for 240 people, with Zurich’s Claims, Sales and Underwriting functions all now based there.

The state of the art environment has been designed to reflect Zurich’s commitment to employee wellbeing, with onsite facilities including a lounge area, games room and wellbeing room all housed on the 7th Floor.

As part of its’ ongoing commitment to the environment, the insurer has also recycled over 38,000 items of furniture during the office move, with a saving of over forty thousand kilograms of carbon dioxide.  It has recycled over twenty tonnes of waste throughout the build of the new workspace with recycling facilities available on site.

A new approach to General Insurance Claims 
Zurich is proud of its award-winning UK claims function – in 2017 as a whole it paid out on over 99% of all claims in the UK. To ensure it retains this industry-leading position, it has recast its approach to make customers’ experience, and the time it takes to resolve claims, ever better.

The more streamlined model will see four claims hubs across the UK, each catering to specific expertise. 

Glasgow will now be the hub for all of Zurich’s UK motor and home claims, and increasingly smaller commercial lines claims which can be dealt with simply and quickly. 

Elsewhere in the country:

- London will be where Specialty, Property and Energy Claims are handled.
- Casualty claims will be dealt with in Birmingham
- the insurer’s South coast office in Whiteley, Hampshire, will house Claims Services (investigations & fraud, governance and vendor management).

Bringing different types of claim together in the same location in this way provides consistency in terms of how they are handled, and allows greater sharing of processes and ways to improve amongst the specialist teams.

Tulsi Naidu continued, “We want to make our whole organisation less complex and more innovative - and this is exactly what our new model for handling general insurance claims does.

“Our customers want to know that we’re on hand with the right expertise at the time they need it – available quickly, and able to resolve their claims as fast as possible. By streamlining our claims model and creating four regional hubs across the UK, each with specialist expertise for servicing a particular type of claim, we’re confident that we will provide a better quality service for our customers.  

“We are excited to be expanding our Glasgow base and creating a centre of excellence for all our UK motor and home claims.  More broadly we see Scotland as a core part of our UK footprint, both in terms of customers and our own operations as we continue to grow our business.”
