Talent learning and development

Take control of your Engineering career by looking at how we can help you succeed and achieve your goal

Talent management

It’s important for any organisation to ensure it makes the most of the skills, knowledge and experiences of its people. We recognise that everyone in our business has talents that contribute to our success. Accordingly, we provide a full range of training, development and education solutions, that covers both initial and ongoing training.

Our regular talent review process identifies superior performers who show real leadership potential, professional/expert potential, or both. Employees are nominated by their managers to join one of our UK talent pools. These centres of excellence develop functional expertise and leadership capability at key levels, and provide both on-job and off-job experiences. Combined with regular feedback and reviews, as well as exposure to peers and senior managers across the country, talent pool development accelerates the growth of ability both across and upwards in our business.

Engineer Surveyor Training Programmes

All our Engineer Surveyors are selected upon the basis of relevant academic qualifications and previous work experience. Once on board you will be required to attend a specially tailored induction training programme together with a bespoke field training programme for a period of between 6 and 16 weeks, depending on your previous experience.

Once the field training phase is complete you will be required to pass an industry standard (SAFed SS01) exam which tests your technical knowledge. At this time feedback from your field training is reviewed and providing everything is satisfactory you will be granted signed-off as being competent and ready to start carrying out thorough examinations by yourself. But don’t worry you won’t be completely on your own as our team network and training mentor will always be at hand to offer advice and guidance at the touch of a button!

The final part of the initial training is to obtain the SAFed H&S Passport which is an industry requirement for all surveyors and demonstrates both to the business and our customers that you understand best practice health & safety arrangements specifically tailored to working as an engineer surveyor.

However the training does not end here! Throughout your working life with Zurich you will be given ongoing training to improve your skills and update you on important industry changes. To help tailor technical training to suit individual needs we use an industry recognised online training programme for engineer surveyors. This programme is designed to test your knowledge and confidence in your own ability via a series of questions which also asks you to rate how confident you are that your answer is correct. The output enables us to make your training personal to your individual needs.
