Hirers' Liability insurance for your charity

If your charity has premises that you hire out to individuals or groups, then our charity Hirers' Liability insurance is something to consider.

Some organisations take this insurance to make it as easy as possible for groups to access their facilities – it therefore potentially enhances their income and gives them an advantage over other facilities which may be available for hire.

Our Hirers' Liability insurance includes:

  •  Up to £2 million of cover for claims against the hirer of your premises
  •  Cover against accidental damage to third party property caused by the hirer
  •  Compensation for accidental injury to third parties caused by the hirer
  •  Legal defence costs for claims against the hirer

If your organisation owns a property, or you are responsible for the contents within a property, you may want to consider our Buildings and Contents insurance. We can also provide Public Liability insurance which offers property owners liability if you are responsible for a building.

Why would I need this cover?

Hirers’ Liability insurance provides protection to the customers of organisations who hire out their premises.

It gives the hirer cover against accidental damage to third party property and compensation for accidental injury to third parties.

Our Hirers’ Liability Insurance does not cover hiring the premises for commercial or political use. Nor is it intended to provide additional cover to organisations hiring the premises that already have their own Public Liability cover.

For example:

A charity allows local community groups to hire a meeting room, for a nominal fee, in order to hold their AGMs and training sessions. Some of these groups will have insurance and some will not. The charity decides it best to purchase Hirers’ Liability cover for those without Public Liability insurance rather than leaving them without protection.
