Programme achievements
Key achievements to date
- Over 500 isolated older people have been supported/befriended by over 200 volunteers.
- A unique employee volunteer model has been developed using Zurich employee volunteers calling isolated older people in work time.
- Over 120 Zurich employees currently make regular calls to their older friends.
- The Prudential have joined the programme and currently have over 60 employee volunteers.
- The Leeds Metropolitan University's evaluation concluded that the service was highly valued by isolated older people and had a positive impact on their mental and physical health.
Recognition
We were Highly Commended at the Companies and Communities Awards recognised by the Charities Aid Foundation for this programme. In addition, the Third Sector Excellence Awards shortlisted this programme for the 2009 Charity Partnership Award.
Looking ahead
- The employee volunteering model pioneered through A Call in Time has proved so successful that by 2013, the aim is for ten new corporate A Call in Time partners to join the programme.
- To continue to support our existing volunteers and welcome more volunteers to the programme.
