 Impact

During 2006-07 we:

  • Gave grants worth £78,000 to five partners
  • Sent six staff members - donating 23 weeks of their time and business skills
  • Supported one Indian Consultant to be our 'eyes and ears' on the ground to work with assignees
  • Enabled 48 'virtual' staff volunteers to exchange emails with service users in India amounting to 115 hours
  • Funded five partners to attend a South Asian Fundraising workshop
  • Hosted one Partner's networking meeting

 

What was achieved through the programme?

 

Our partner's latest achievements are detailed below, and Zurich Community Trust is proud to be associated with these outcomes and have played our own part to fulfil them.

 

Action on Disability and Development - India (ADDI)

  • Direct Intervention Projects (DIPs) support 2752 people with disability across 360 villages
  • 300 people have accessed loans through the DIP federations
  • 840 Sanghas (Self Help Groups) have been formed via 54 supported partners
  • 240 families affected by mental health issues in Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been supported in livelihood activities
  • 2550 people with mental health issues have been identified and supported for inclusion in society
  • 60 people have received help getting mobility aids and appliances via federation work
  • 60 people from three partners have been trained to deliver awareness-raising cultural events 9e.g. street theatre)

Association of People with Disability (APD)

  • Developed capacity of 194 self help groups, including 1,611 people with disability
  • 3,536 people helped with therapeutic interventions
  • Provided 22297 assistive devices
  • Provided access to education to 1,230 children with disability
  • 744 people with disability trained and 598 gained access to employment

Mobility India

  • 54 students trained in Prosthetics and Orthotics (24), Rehabilitation Therapy (15) and wheelchair prescription (15).
  • 6 CBR Workers and a further 9 CBR Managers trained
  • 3,399 devices provided for 2,532 people with disability
  • 168 children with disabilities enrolled in schools with a further 465 undertaking coaching and computer classes
  • 437 Sanghas (Self help groups) members save regularly to help provide Income Generation options
  • 765 people reached through partner support

The Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu (SPASTN)

  • 2469 newborns screened for development delay with 1064 identified for early intervention
  • 686 mobility appliances delivered through the programmes
  • 2553 people reached through CBR awareness programme
  • 2134 people trained in a variety of disability issues
  • 817 teachers and 937 parents trained through the National Government’s Education for All (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan – SSA) programme
  • 25 Able Art trainees placed in employment

The Banyan

  • 230 homeless women receiving care and treatment at the Banyan’s residential facility.
  • 327 homeless persons receiving care and treatment at IMH as a part of The Banyan – Gov. of Tamil Nadu Helpline initiative.
  • 1,000 persons receiving treatment as a part of Banyan’s Out Patient services.
  • 68 persons reintegrated into their homes/communities last year.
