Zurich makes its mark in the community!

Zurich has made a great start to 2012 with the news that it has successfully renewed and retained its Business in the Community (BITC) CommunityMark status for three CommunityMark planter 2012more years.

The CommunityMark standard recognises the different ways companies of all sizes and across all sectors invest in their communities through corporate giving and fundraising, employee volunteering time, in-kind support and commercial initiatives. The CommunityMark was first launched in 2008 and is endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Zurich's CommunityMark was renewed because the company has demonstrated its strong commitment to making a difference in the community through funding and support of the Zurich Community Trust and for encouraging and supporting employees to engage in community activities.

Zurich was also recognised for the way it has has used its knowledge as a leading insurer of charitable and social organisations to  help reduce the barriers to volunteering through the development of My Community Starter.

Zurich is proud to have successfully renewed its CommunityMark from Business In The Community. It is testament to the company’s steadfast commitment to meeting our social responsibilities as a leading corporate business in the UK.  We have demonstrated our leadership in this area, most recently by our development of the innovative My Community Starter tool, which we hope will reduce further the barriers people face in volunteering.

Our charitable arm, the Zurich Community Trust, goes from strength to strength and during these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever that businesses across the UK play a key role in supporting their local communities.quotes-right.gif Steve Lewis, Chief Executive of UK General Insurance, Zurich

During a considerably tough year Zurich has proved that continuing to listen, engage and respond to the needs of their communities reinforces the fact that excellence in community investment not only has a positive and valuable impact on society, but translates to real business benefits.quotes-right.gif Stephen Howard, CEO of Business in the Community

To achieve the CommunityMark, companies are assessed according to the five principles of community investment through a rigorous independent process, which is externally validated. Since its launch in 2008, only 45 companies have achieved the CommunityMark and Zurich remains a CommunityMark 'pioneer' company by being one of only 15 large companies to achieve the standard when first launched in 2008.
