9 November 2011: Sarah Queux from Customer Care in Farnborough, recently met Dorothy the older lady she supports through A Call in Time, Zurich Community Trust's telephone befriending programme run in partnership with Age UK.
Usually the Call in Time programme relies exclusively on phone contact. But this was a special birthday and an exception had to be made! Dorothy was celebrating her 100th year and, as she was in hospital, Age UK relaxed the rules and made it possible for Sarah, along with her manager, Pamela, to pay her a special visit.
"I have been calling Dorothy now for around four years and it was wonderful to finally meet her. She really has become like a member of the family and we always have a great talk. I love it and it's something I look forward to every week." Sarah.
Sarah's colleagues from Farnborough also clubbed together to buy Dorothy a few presents and a bouquet of flowers to mark the day. Happy Birthday Dorothy!
