Here's a snapshot of how supporters of Zurich Cares (Zurich Community Trust's employee involvement programme) raise those vital pounds and pence! Be they permanent Zurich employees, contractors or Capita staff, they all make a difference to the total. And - if you are a sponsor – so do you. Thank you!
Run for the money
More than 34,400 people finished the 2008 Flora London Marathon on Sunday 13th April. This makes the 2008 race the third biggest of the 28 London Marathons held since it started in 1981!
Among the throng, were 14 Zurich employees running in aid of Zurich Cares. Each runner, in addition to running 26.2 miles (and eating lots of calories beforehand), was tasked to raise a minimum of £1,000 for Zurich Cares, indeed many of them have smashed this target! When it's all in, the team will have raised nearly a massive £20,000!
Here’s what one of the squad, Mark Martindale, Claims Supply Consultant from Farnborough, had to say:
"I really enjoyed the whole experience and will remember it for a long time! I would recommend it to anyone. I managed a time of 4:23:15, which beat my 4:30 target! The atmosphere generated by the crowds and the other runners is difficult to describe. Only after 20 miles did it occur to me that I had already run 4 miles further than ever before. The main incentive for completing the 26 miles was thinking about the amount of money going to a great cause. All there is to do now before I'm 40 is climb Everest and swim the channel!"
| Did you know that? |
| 100% of donations made through the Zurich Cares programme are donated to charities, as all the running costs of the Trust are met by Zurich's business contribution. So the money goes exactly where it should - to the charity! |
Let's Rock....
One for the music lovers! Cheltenham Town Hall really rocked on Friday 5th September to the sounds of top guitar band ‘Roger's The Cabin Boy’ (RTCB). Julian Bayes, IT Developer for Capita Life and Pensions in Cheltenham and colleagues Rob Broady, Alex Milne and Russ Corbett took to the stage to raise funds for Zurich Cares for the third year in a row!
250 people, including VIPs in a specially cordoned off area complete with champagne and pick 'n'mix, enjoyed a brilliant evening with a high octane musical set with covers from The Killers, U2, and Fratellis to name but a few.
The money has now been counted and the total raised confirmed as an amazing £2775 (including matching from Zurich Cares) which will now go to support good local causes.
Well done to the Cabin Boys, and thank you to Capita for your continued support. Our ears are still ringing....!
Geared for giving
Zurich continues to be at the top of the league when it comes to effective giving through Give As You Earn (GAYE). The figures speak for themselves and explain why Zurich has just been awarded the Gold Payroll Giving Award by the Institute of Fundraising for the third consecutive year.

Leeds are on the ball!
They said that it couldn't be done, but the 2008 Zurich Community Trust Charity Ball was, once again, an outstanding success! 300 local insurance professionals, Zurich staff, partners and friends, joined together on the evening of Saturday 6th September, giving their all to raise the roof off the Elland Road venue and the marvellous sum of £23,000 for Partner Charities, including Marie Curie Cancer Care for whom a nurse gave a very moving talk..
The 'gentle' persuasiveness of Auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies Malcolm Lord, practised skills of the Zurich Leeds Charity Committee and generosity of event sponsors proved a winning combination. Since Andy White, Zurich's Branch Manager, first conceived the idea of a Ball four summers ago the total sum raised from the event has topped £75,000'. "
“The decision to dedicate this year’s Ball to Zurich Cares wasn’t difficult,” says the committee, “It just made sense! After all, it is our own charity and, as the funds raised will benefit a wide range of local and national charities, helping people to achieve a more independent life."
