Zurich has become the first composite insurer to gain Chartered Insurer status from the Chartered Insurance Institute, CII, for the whole of its UK general insurance business.
This follows years of work to develop defined standards of ethical behaviour and reflects Zurich's ongoing commitment to professional qualifications and to employee personal development. The status covers Zurich’s UK General Insurance division (Commercial Broker, UK Personal Lines and Zurich Municipal) and Global Corporate UK, as well as Zurich’s shared service functions.
UKGI Chief Executive Officer Steve Lewis collected the official Chartered Status from Dr. Sandy Scott, CII CEO, at a ceremony at the CII on Tuesday (24th January 2012).
Speaking after the event, Steve Lewis commented, “Corporate Chartered Status is the gold standard in the insurance industry and is recognition of our expertise and professionalism. As the first composite insurer in the UK to achieve this across all general insurance operations, this puts Zurich in a unique position in the market and is further evidence of our professionalism and expertise.”
Dr Sandy Scott, CEO of the CII Group, said, "Zurich's decision to become a Chartered Insurer is hugely significant and shows that the industry is serious about building a profession that can enjoy public confidence. They are the first composite insurer to have their entire UK general insurance operation attain Chartered status and I believe this commitment to standards of technical competency, ethical behaviour and ongoing learning will lead to better outcomes for customers. For staff it will provide a clear career path, greater job satisfaction and significantly enhance Zurich’s ability to attract and retain talented people.
