Important information for customers affected by recent air travel disruption following volcanic ash event

The following outlines the Zurich Municipal position on Insurance Cover relating to the volcanic ash disruption. Please CLICK HERE to view useful Q&As on this matter.

Zurich Municipal are prepared to treat as covered, Claims (subject to normal policy terms and limits) for cancellation or extension of the insured journey as a result of air disruption caused by the volcanic ash, to the extent that the loss is not recoverable from any other source (for example an airline paying for the loss) . We will also pay for any additional travel and accommodation costs reasonably incurred.

Under some school journey insurance policies, cover for delay is triggered by an adverse weather event. Zurich Municipal does not believe the volcanic ash to be an adverse weather event, however we are prepared to consider claims under this heading on an individual basis as presented to us, subject to normal policy terms and limits.

We have set up a designated team to administer all claims from this event, this team are already making outbound calls to customers to see where we can make offers of practical assistance in repatriating those with priority needs such as school children and those with medical needs.
