Firefighters strike – London Fire Brigade

The planned firefighters strikes in London present increased concerns about fire risks at our customers premises within much of the London area.

During periods of industrial action, there is the potential for much larger and more devastating fires, not only in respect of the physical damage and life safety of occupants, some of whom may be elderly or infirm, but also for business disruption, including uninsured consequential losses.

We would like to make customers aware of the potential problems and additional threats posed.
It is very likely that any fires that do occur may be more serious for several reasons, including:

  • A delay in calling out the fire service, particularly if you have an automatic signalling system from your automatic fire alarm or sprinkler system
  • A delay in the attendance of the firefighters, particularly if they are attending another incident elsewhere
  • The fire fighting attendance and capability may be lower than the standard Fire Service response
  • Given the planned action over the Bonfire Night period, the may be increased likelihood of accidental fires, with insufficient measures in place to control the risk
