At this year's CIPFA annual conference, Zurich Municipal raised the issues associated with downsizing and the impact of public sector spending cuts on public service delivery. As headline sponsors of this event, which took place 8-10th June, Zurich Municipal addressed the issues that are on the mind of every local authority - what do the cuts mean for my organisation?
Through an interactive survey, a workshop and the launch of our latest briefing paper - Building resilience: developing a 'whole risk' approach to managing risk and uncertainty - we aimed to highlight how organisations can manage downsizing for a sustainable future. The survey asked delegates about what the sector cuts would mean to them and how their organisation is likely to manage the risks associated with rapid budget cuts. The workshop, which included a quick poll, looked at Zurich's own experience of downsizing by 10% and how these lessons can be applied to a local authority, without affecting service delivery. The results of both of these surveys will be released in due course - keep checking our website for more information.
Our latest briefing paper outlines how public sector organisations need to manage new and emerging risks in the face of spending cuts and organisational change, whilst delivering against tougher community targets. A resilient approach is key to long-term survival – for any organisation. To download a copy of our paper, please visit www.NewWorldofRisk.com.
