Cheviot Homes recently hosted a celebration event, attended by representatives from Zurich Municipal, to pay tribute to the outstanding community response to the severe flooding in Rothbury on 6 September 2008 and to welcome residents back to Armstrong Cottages.
The celebratory event, opened by the Duchess of Northumberland, was held on the front lawns at Armstrong Cottages on Friday 13 November. The Duchess then visited number 8 Armstrong Cottages with other residents, volunteers and staff to see first hand the extent and standard of refurbishment work.
Following the severe flooding in Rothbury last September, Cheviot Homes, working closely with Zurich Municipal, has completely refurbished the twelve Grade 2 listed buildings at Armstrong Cottages and is delighted that residents are now able to enjoy being back in their own homes again. Cheviot Homes has taken the opportunity to restore Armstrong Cottages to a higher standard than before.
Mick Kelly, Head of Housing, Zurich Municipal said, “We are delighted to welcome the residents of Armstrong Cottages back to their homes. This shows the importance of having the right insurance cover and what can be achieved when we work closely together to restore properties after such unfortunate incidents. We wish the residents well in the future.”
