Zurich sponsors flood works celebration in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire
Councillors and engineers from Gloucestershire County Council were joined by Castle Street residents, members of Winchcombe Town Council and the Winchcombe Flood Action Group to celebrate the completion of a flood alleviation scheme in Castle Street, Winchcombe in July.
The flood project is one of the largest and most complex that Gloucestershire County Council has undertaken since the floods of 2007, which resulted in extensive flooding in Castle Street.
Around 40 people attended the celebration event, taking the chance to look at a display outlining the work that had been undertaken by Gloucestershire Highways, meet and talk with officers and share their experiences from the 2007 floods. This was followed by a public drop-in session for interested residents.
Stan Waddington, Cabinet Member for Environment from Gloucestershire County Council said, ‘This was one of our biggest jobs carried out in the wake of the 2007 floods. I am very pleased it is now complete. Thanks very much to Zurich for their support with this event.’
