Zurich has launched an insurance scheme to give local charities and community groups easy access to insurance - from under £10 a month and as little as £75 a year.
The policy will enable groups of volunteers and smaller charitable organisations to purchase comprehensive public liability cover for a wide range of activities, with a limit of up to £10M.
Developed in collaboration with NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action) and delivered through Tennyson Insurance, the solution also gives community groups free access to a suite of on-line resources such as health & safety documentation and guidance to help select the cover that is right for them.
Last week David Cameron launched his concept for a ‘Big Society’, highlighting the need to empower community groups and individuals to affect action in their local areas, reduce reliance on the State and remove the red tape that burdens many existing groups - as well as would-be volunteers.
Paul Emery, Head of Community & Social Organisations at Zurich commented: “A lack of accessibility and affordability means that many community and voluntary groups are uninsured, many important community projects can therefore be hindered or they may not even get off the ground”.
“Enabling the removal of barriers to the running of charities and volunteer groups by providing affordable insurance is just one of the ways we support the sector. We are keen to engage with Government to support the development of policy in this important area, whilst continuing to work with the sector and local authorities to develop innovative insurance and risk solutions to remove complexity and support volunteering.”
Kevin Curley, Chief Executive at NAVCA said: “This is a brilliant new scheme which will meet an urgent need in the communities sector. By supporting community groups with the risks they face we can help them to deliver the ‘Big Society’ ”.
