Street party organisers planning Royal Wedding celebrations on 29th April have got a lot to think about, from closing roads and trying to keep the noise down, to making sure there's enough food, and getting hold of Kate and William bunting.
But one thing they won't have to worry about is insurance, thanks to the launch of a new policy specially designed with the big day in mind.
Zurich has developed an insurance policy to ensure individuals organising street parties for the day of the Royal Wedding or ‘The Big Lunch’ on 5th June are covered.
For a one-off cost of £63.60 for public liability cover organisers will be covered for street parties being attended by up to 200 people. Additional cover can be purchased at minimal cost to include hired items like tables and chairs, marquees and generators.
Zurich is also offering ‘2 for 1’ to individuals purchasing street event insurance for both the Royal Wedding and ‘The Big Lunch’ if the covers are arranged at the same time.
Paul Emery, Head of Community & Social Organisations at Zurich, said: “By ensuring that individuals have access to the right insurance for these types of events we aim to remove any potential barriers to them taking pace and provide the peace of mind to enable all to focus on enjoying the festivities.”
Top tips for planning a street party:*
Before the event:
• Cover yourself – check that you have all the necessary paperwork in place. Your local council can advise you on any license and insurance requirements, as every local authority varies
• Close the road – speak with your local council to ensure that everything is agreed between police and the local highways agency to close your road
• Check electrics – ensure that cables cannot cause a trip hazard and electrical equipment is well protected from potential rain water. Consult an electrician for further advice
• Watch your back – limit risks before you start by using trolleys for transporting heavy objects and steady ladders when hanging bunting and decorations
On the day:
• Keep food safe – ensure you follow food hygiene standards. If you’re holding a BBQ, make sure it’s supervised at all times and located away from children
• Sound travels – consider noise levels and neighbouring roads. A party that starts and ends early may be most appropriate
• Dedicated first aiders – ensure you have a trained first aider available in case any accidents happen
• Be prepared for the dark – if your party is likely to continue into the night, ensure you have suitable lighting in place (sunset on the 29th April is at 8:20pm)
• Keep your neighbourhood clean – ensure you have plans in place to clean up any mess created from your event on the day, with appropriate recycling measures in place
