Zurich teams up with Drive & Survive to launch unique Road Awareness Programme

1 September 2003

Zurich has partnered Drive & Survive to create a quick, practical and cost-effective Road Awareness Programme that will be exclusively available to Zurich fleet policyholders from 1st September.

The Road Awareness Programme is modular and flexible and can form part of a company risk audit for Health and Safety Regulations. It begins with an on-line Individual Driver Risk Assessment (IDRA), costing only £5 per driver. The IDRA assesses each driver’s attitude, mindset and driving environment in relation to where, when and how often they drive. Companies then receive a report that identifies potential gaps in their drivers’ awareness and recommends a combination of training modules to address their individual needs.

David Smith, Head of Business Operations for Zurich’s UK Commercial business said; "Driving is now officially the most dangerous activity within the workplace. It is estimated that in 2002, 30% of all road fatalities and serious injuries involved somebody who was at work We are urging brokers to advise their customers that they need to take control of managing driver safety by assessing their drivers awareness and acting on the information."

Business driver accidents also impact on rising premiums and claims inflation. David Smith continued, "The risk to human life is obviously unacceptable, but we also want companies to understand that by implementing good risk management processes they can better manage their cost of risk."
