Actuarial opportunities

At Zurich we appreciate that actuaries offer an unrivalled appreciation of financial risk management, arguably one of the most fundamental areas of business.

Actuaries are essential to our business operations, as they are able to analyse historical data, assess the present risks involved, and model what could happen in the future. Using this information they may then forecast the long-term financial implications of business decisions, both in terms of likely outcomes and in the variability of these outcomes.

Zurich’s goal is that all major business decisions taken are supported by appropriate actuarial techniques, and sound actuarial models.

Actuarial Areas

The two main actuarial areas are reserving and pricing.

Reserving Actuaries analyse capital usage and suggest ways of maximizing risks/ rewards for the business. They help integrate reserving and pricing disciplines to enable better individual account decision making.

In addition to the individual pricing of insurance contracts, Pricing Actuaries aid strategic business decisions, deal with reinsurance purchasing and strategic planning at an account team level. They assist in product design, contract drafting

Whichever area you choose to specialise in, working closely with the Claims and Underwriting specialists, the Actuarial teams within Zurich play a pivotal role in applying statistical techniques to set reserves and price risks.

Our Actuaries are also play a key role in our promise of excellent customer service, and are actively involved in helping our customers identify, manage and finance the risks they face. Our client base ranges from Multi-National Corporations, local authorities, educational establishments & the health service to small businesses and individuals.

Qualifications

In order to maintain our high calibre of staff we are keen to consider graduates (minimum 2:1) with a degree in Maths, Statistics or Actuarial Science.

Zurich actively encourages a mentoring system for trainee Actuaries, as well as offering study leave and financial support towards actuarial exams.

As well as the fundamental technical skills it is also essential that our Actuaries are able to communicate complex and technical concepts in layman's terms to both internal & external customers.
